This Moment Matters: Simple Homeopathic Support for Allergies & Colds

If it feels like you’re surrounded by coughs and sniffles this time of year, you’re not alone!

Alongside rest, hydration, and hand-washing, many families wonder what else might help ease their seasonal suffering. Some turn to natural, holistic approaches for comfort and to support recovery. We asked Aaron Stiner of Rising Sun Wellness to share a few practical thoughts on homeopathy and everyday wellness during cold and allergy season, and beyond.

For anyone new to homeopathy, how would you describe it?

Homeopathy is a gentle, natural system of medicine that works by matching a specific remedy to a person’s unique symptom picture. A homeopathic remedy stimulates a person's inner healing response, improving health in the mind, emotions, and body. Under professional guidance, homeopathy may be used for long-standing health concerns — from emotional patterns to seasonal allergies — and can also be used at home for acute issues such as, colds, coughs, flu-like symptoms, minor injuries, and bug bites.

When someone in your household is showing signs of seasonal allergies, what’s your general approach from a homeopathic perspective?

If allergies present as ongoing, chronic, or annual symptoms, the best approach is to consult a professional homeopath for treatment. However, if symptoms are more sporadic or short-lived, you can try treating them at home. You can use the my downloadable guide, Homeopathy for Spring Allergies, to find the remedy that best matches your specific symptoms. These remedies are safe, inexpensive, and can be purchased at local health food stores or online.

Are there one or two remedies you suggest families keep on hand for common illnesses, like colds and flus?

Two very helpful remedies to keep on hand are Aconite (Aconitum) and Oscillococcinum. Aconite is frequently used at the very earliest signs of a cold, particularly when symptoms come on suddenly after exposure to cold air, wind, or crowds. Oscillococcinum does the same thing for flu — taken at the first sign of flu-like symptoms, it has the potential to shorten the duration and intensity of the viral illness. (You can learn more about both of these remedies in my downloadable guides, Homeopathy for First Aid and Homeopathy for Colds, Coughs, and Flus.)

What’s one simple tip you’d give parents navigating seasonal bugs?

Slow down and observe before reacting. The more clearly you can describe what you’re seeing — your child’s mood, energy, and specific symptoms — the easier it is to identify a matching remedy.

Beyond remedies, what everyday habits or practices best support resilience during this season of ongoing sniffles?

Simple habits are often the most powerful: adequate sleep, nourishing whole foods, time outside in fresh air, and managing stress. When the nervous system is supported and the body is well-rested, resilience naturally improves.
