Getting Started at the Center
Getting Started Is Easy!
We’re so glad you’re here! At the Center, we tailor our therapeutic paths to each child, teen, adult, couple, and family who walks through our door. If you are new to the Center — welcome! Here’s what you can expect:
The Center provides both short and long-term counseling for kids, teens, adults, couples, and families. Most clients meet with their therapist once a week for a 50-minute individual session or for a 75-minute group session. Appointments are available on weekdays, after-school, and during (limited) weekend hours.
Appointment Frequency & Availability
After an initial conversation by phone and the completion of your intake forms, we'll schedule a time to meet in person. Typically after 1-3 sessions, your therapist will offer thoughts, observations, and recommendations — working with you to map out the next, personalized steps towards positive change.
Getting Started
Communication is ongoing, thoughtful, and progress-oriented. We set goals and discuss how best to meet them therapeutically; talk about the markers of progress with each kid, teen, adult, couple and family; and plan how we'll actively track this progress together with you.
Checking In
For younger kids and teens, we schedule regular parent meetings to facilitate collaboration, coaching, and shared understandings — while also respecting their privacy and confidentiality. For older teens, we work with families to honor their teen’s very real developmental needs for increased privacy and independence, while also balancing and encouraging shared communication.
Parent/Child Communication
At the Center, we prioritize whole-person well-being: mind, body, and spirit. You’ll find that whether it’s in individual or group clinical sessions, we take time to integrate meditation and mindfulness, breath work, and explore moving our bodies. (Read more about why a holistic, integrative mental health model is so important to us here!) We can also recommend nutritional counseling, Reiki, and Ayurvedic treatments beyond our therapeutic offerings, which can be scheduled and discussed with individual practitioner partners.

The Center for Family Well-Being is an out-of-network practice, which we feel allows our clients increased privacy and more power and choice in the treatment process. Most of our clients find that their health insurance includes "out-of-network" benefits that cover a percentage of our practice fee; depending on your insurance, you may find reimbursement rates between 40-80%.
To determine if your insurance company provides reimbursement, contact your insurer directly. Here are a few questions to ask about reimbursement eligibility:
Do I have out-of-network benefits to see a clinical social worker or other mental health professional?
If yes, what percentage is covered?
How many sessions are covered per year?
Do I have a deductible and has it been met?
What CPT codes are reimbursable?
What forms do I need to submit for reimbursement?
